Bangkok 2014: After You

I think After You in Bangkok is one of those over-blogged places, but for good reasons – the atmosphere is homely and cosy and the food is good.

An Instagram of an Instagram

We chanced upon this new outlet in Siam and it was very welcoming. While After You is one of the cafes that put more thought into the decor, the same amount of thought is placed into their presentation of food and the food itself. Explains why it’s so over blogged now?

I know patrons rave about the Shibuya Honey Toast but fried bread drenched in honey isn’t really my thing. The sticky date pudding and scones are some of the under-rated items but trust me, those are damn good.

Bangkok 2014: Palladium DIY Market Part Two

Continuing from Part One

At Paladium DIY market, we saw this really cute DIY straw bags where you choose graphics to be imprinted on your choice of bag.

Here’s an example

So first decide on the size of your bag.

Then rummage through the prints that they have. The prints are actually printed on napkins.

Bangkok 2014: Paladium DIY Market

There isn’t really much night shopping within the Platinum Fashion Mall district because most shops at Platinum start closing at about 7.30pm.

Palladium (or Paladium) DIY Market rides on the current customisation frenzy. Remember those fancy passport holders with your name embossed you often see at flea markets in Singapore? Forget those (which probably cost 2-4x more) and get them done in Bangkok if you have a trip to Bangkok planned. Here, you get get a customised passport holder, notebook, cap, clutch. The list goes on…

I remember this envelope clutch being about SGD10-15.

Traveling in 2015

When I was younger (HA like I’m damn old now), full of life and with more energy, I could travel up to 4-5 locations a year.

Last year, in 2014, I had been to:

Jan: Melbourne
Feb: Kuala Lumpur
August: Bali
Sep: Osaka & Kyoto
Nov: Bangkok

My travels last year were made possible because part of Japan was a sponsored trip (as I had won a blogging challenge for Singapore Dance Delight) and also, the kind extension of a work trip for Bangkok.

This year due to personal projects and commitments to dance, I’m scaling down on my travels but I’m going for more epic trips with friends! Previously in my Eat Pray No Love Bali and Semi Solo Japan trip made me realise how lonely solo tripping can be. It’s nice and relaxing to be able to travel at my own slow pace, it’s also a reminder of how loneliness and silence may be deafening.

My destinations in 2015 are…

April 2015

Short trip to Bangkok with Bestie and her boyfriend. I know, you must be rolling your eyes and thinking, “why are you going there as a third party?” Nuh uh, you don’t understand friend. It’s more like a they are going because I’m going as compared to I’m going because they’re going. Capisce?

In simpler terms, if I didn’t go they wouldn’t have gone. Sucks to be me right?

I’m not sure if we’ll pick up some drinks at Talad Rot Fai this time since Bestie and BF aren’t much of drinkers but I’ll definitely grab my favourite Mojito if I see one of those mobile bars.

Bangkok 2014: A mojito a day… keeps you going one more day

October 2015

I love Australia – the vibe, the culture, the food… all of it! My favourite travel buddies and I decided that it’s high time we reunite so this year, we’re back with a vengeance!

We’re going on a pretty *high* budget (well, it is high to me) trip to Australia. We fly into Sydney and fly out of Melbourne, in between, we be road tripping between cities. If you have any suggestions for us, please drop me a comment!

It’s going to be FREEZING for me so time to start shopping for sweaters and jackets. And since Roger is going, we have pretty shots guaranteed. Time to shoot some Facebook covers!

Melbourne 2014 By Thomas Tan

So this is the line up for this year (although I do predict some pop up trips) and I’m REALLY excited for my trips. I try not to grin to myself too often so that people don’t think I’m too weird.

Can you feel my excitement already?

Blog updates for April 2015

As you can see, I’ve changed up my appearance for a bit!

It is really hard for me to find an appropriate template because I like things to be upfront and organised so that my readers can navigate my posts easily. Most of my hits tend to come from Googlers who are researching  or my friends who are looking for a specific post.

I’m also toying with the idea of shifting to my own hosting, powered on WordPress so that I have more options to purchase WordPress templates. However, the notion of exporting blog content, migrating and dealing with the technicalities scare me too much so I’m afraid I’ll be stuck on free WordPress templates for a while.

Bangkok 2014: Makura Cat Cafe Second Visit

So if you’re a frequent reader, you probably realise,

“Hey this chick goes to Bangkok like an annual pilgrim.”

You’re almost correct! I was in Bangkok in November 2014 (not really by choice but because of a work trip so I took the opportunity to extend my trip for a couple of days to visit my favourite haunts.

I was at Makura Cat Cafe when it newly opened in 2013 and what a difference a year made. I didn’t bring a digital camera, hence, images taken on my iPhone.

Typically, for every country, I like to visit at least one cat cafe!

Generally speaking, I feel that the cats are overwhelmed by the visitors already. Hence, they tend to be a little more “I don’t really want to play” attitude.

You can purchase a treat for the kitties to overwhelm you. HA.

Singapore’s upcoming reality dance show

The last reality dance show in Singapore that I remember was The Dance Floor on Channel 5. That was probably when I was still in primary school! Anyone knows of Zee TV? It’s a cable channel from India and they’re bringing Dance Singapore Dance – localised version of Dance India Dance to town. It’s somewhat similar to SYTYCD and is open to all local residents, 16 and above. Super long post but these will be the details you’ll need to know!

About Dance Singapore Dance

Dance India Dance started in India in 2009 and has seen over 200,000 participants over nine editions. This is the first edition of Dance Singapore Dance in 2015 Dance Singapore Dance will have the spirit of and showcase a similar look and feel to Dance India Dance.
